This project was something I had been interested in for a couple of years. I was always fascinated with old wooden boats and wanted to own one of my own. I quickly found that many of the models in working order we well beyond my budget but I did have a whole winter to work on restoring one if I could find one for the right price that needed some work.
I started by browsing Craigslist and quickly found this 16 ft 1962 Century Resorter and knew that it was the one for me. It was not only a perfect fit for my liking but also a perfect fit for my garage, I was able to shut the garage door with inches to spare.
The pictures below outline the progress made from the day I brought it home to the day it was completed. There were a few hurdles along the way, one of which was how to lift the gigantic motor and transmission into the boat. A traditional engine hoist would not lift it high enough to get over the side of the boat so I had to rig up a chain fall with extra support in the rafters of my garage.
I was able to have my mom help with the interior and continued to learn as I went.
I hope you enjoy.
